Unemployment Rates Increase Across Hickory Metro, State

Unemployment rates increased across the Hickory Metro and across much of the state according to the most recent report. The update was released late last week by the North Carolina Department of Commerce Labor and Economic Analysis Division. The numbers reflect the June unemployment rates.

The unemployment rate in Catawba County is 4.2 percent, up from 3.8 percent in May. Alexander County’s jobless rate rose to 3.9 percent, from 3.6 percent. Burke County shows a June unemployment rate of 4.3 percent, up from 3.9 percent in the previous report. Caldwell County’s jobless rate is 4.8 percent, an increase from 4.3 percent in May.

The unemployment rate for the Hickory-Lenoir-Morganton Metropolitan Statistical Area or MSA is 4.3 percent, up from 3.9 percent in the May report. Hickory-Lenoir-Morganton is tied for the sixth lowest unemployment rate among 15 MSAs in North Carolina…..
